Such an unkind nickname. There's no way you can handle a bird like a pheasant without admiring those colours, too bright to be real, glossy and lit with fire. The Grey Ghost
Kudu are often called the 'grey ghost' but they are, generally speaking, one of the easiest of the clan to get close to. On foot I have watched them at time no more than two rod lengths away, close enough to see the drool as they fed. It can be done if you have the wind, a good position and can sit still.
